Description
Little is known about the date of the foundation of this small chapel: it is mentioned for the first time in a sale contract dated 29 September 1396. The interior, with a single room, is very simple: in the right wall of the nave we see the cave of Lourdes built in 1913 by the then sacristan Fedele Siorpaes to be able to place a statue of the Virgin of the Gardena school. Of undoubted artistic interest are the fourteenth-century frescoes on the back wall of the presbytery, the work of a cultured but not local painter, active in the second half of the fourteenth century. These are three fragmentary figures of Saints (S. Bartolomeo, S. Mattia and S. Giuda Taddeo) divided by round arches resting on small columns: in all probability they are what remains of a larger fresco cycle depicting the apostles. On the altar are the statues of St. Francis, St. Anthony of Padua and St. Bonaventure of Bagnoreggio.
